What's New Archives: January 1997

• We are pleased to offer the first online resource devoted to The African Diaspora in Latin America. This page addresses the African experience in Latin America from a variety of perspectives, including links to information on Afro-Latin art, film, history, theory, politics, music, religion, reference and education. There are sections devoted to Brazil, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico and the Caribbean as well as other Latin American regions and an International Resources selection.
• Argentina and Guatemala sections have been added to the Women's Studies page. See "Latin American Resource Review: Latin American Women Writers" in Latin American Resources.
• You can now find two new links to schools in El Salvador in the country resources section of our K-12 page. The same page has also links to Education-Primary & Secondary Schools, in the International Resources section; and Educating about the Americas, and Tools for Educators, in the Teachers' Resources section.
• Our Higher Education page, has seven additions, two reports: Gender & Democracy in Education in Latin America, and Privatization of Latin America Higher Education, both in the Regional Resources section. The Universidad San Francico de Quito, in the Ecuador country resources section. The sites, Education-Tertiary & Postgraduate, DET/CHE, and World Education News & Reviews (WENR), in the International Resources section. • The World Bank country reports for Peru, Chile, and Uruguay, have been added to their corresponding pages.
• Our Libraries page has the four new links: Library Resources on the Internet, and WEB CATS, in the Newsgroups & Network Resources section; the WWW Virtual Library, in the Digital Libraries & Online Publications section; and InfoGraphics in the Software & Hardware section.
• Visit the Maya section of the Indigenous page for information on a 1997 Summer Intensive Introductory Course in the Yucatec Maya language.
• The Mexico Labor News and Analysis periodical can now be found under the News section of the Mexico page.
• The Latin America Resource Review, and Periodicals, can be found in the Publishers & Bookdealers regional resources section of our Publications page. In the same page you can also find the Internet Book Information Center, in the International Resources section.
• The sites El Planeta Platica, and Central America & the Guianas, have been added to the Regional Resources section of our Travel page. The same page has now three new links in the Belize country resources section.

• The Peruvian Physics Network has been added to the Education section of our Peru page.
• The BIBLIO Magazine Online, can now be found in the Digital Libraries & Online Publications section of the Libraries page.

• The Immigration & Migration page now has a link to clari.news.immigration, a USENET newsgroup.
• Tasty meals from Paraguay are now available on the Paraguay page, courtesy of Recetas Paraguayas.
• The Government & Poltics page has a new section for Political Parties for Argentina. Included in this list are links to the Union Civica Radical and the Partido Obrero. Also, the Boletin Oficial de la Republica de Argentina can now be found on this page.
• The Administracion Nacional de Medicamentos, Alimentos y Tecnologia Medica of Argentina is new to the Health page.
• The Military page has a new section for Argentina, and a new link to the Fuerza Aerea Argentina.
• A detailed map of Argentina and a series of maps about Patagonia are now in our Maps page.

• Two new links in our Peru page: Peru CIA factbook, in the General Information section; and La Encuesta, in the News & Periodicals section.

• Tumbas Reales de Sipán, a new site from Unired, has been added to the section of our Peru page.
• Our Libraries page has three new links: Departamento de Bibliotecologia y Documentacion, from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, under the Library Schools section; and Electronic Resources Review, and IFIP WG9.4, under the Library Newsgroups & Network Resources section.
• The publications of the Instituto de Literatura Hispanoamericana from the Universidad de Buenos Aires, and Lugus, a bookdealer of Cuban Literature, have been added to the Publisher & Bookdealers regional resources section, of our Publications page.

• UT-LANIC and the Sistema Económico Latinoamericano (SELA) are pleased to announce the release of SELA's new WWW site. The site is housed at SELA and mirrored on UT-LANIC, where it can be reached via our Joint Projects page or from our list of links to regional organizations on the Interdisciplinary Information page.

  Highlights of this content-rich site include full-text issues of three periodical publications produced by SELA: Capítulos del SELA, published four times per year, Antena del SELA en Estados Unidos, published monthly, and Notas Estratégicas, also published monthly. These and other SELA publications can be reached via our Publications page, or directly through the Publicaciones section on the SELA site.

  The site also includes extensive institutional information regarding SELA and its activities throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. We hope Latinamericanists find the wealth of information available through the SELA Web site useful in their research endeavors.

• Our Publications page has four new additions: Bilingual Books for Kids, and Centro de la Mujer Peruana "Flora Tristan"-Publicaciones, in the Publishers & Bookdealers Regional resources section; SELA-Publicaciones, in the International Organizations section; and Libros de Derecho from Teleley, Peru, in the Electronic Publications section.

• The Art page has several additions to the Venezuela section: Centro de Arte la Estancia, Galeria de Arte Nacional, Museo de Arte Contemporaneo de Caracas Sofa Imber, Museo Jacobo Borges, Bocetos Architecture Magazine, and Venezulea Cultural, an internet publication on Venezuelan film, music, theatre, literature, plastic arts, dance, etc.

• The mailing list PARAGUAY-L and the Guarani Home Page and Interactive Dictionary have been added to the Arts & Culture section of the Paraguay page.
• A link to data on the Indian Population of Mexico is now in the Population & Demography section of our Sociology page.
• Paraguay, Bolivia, Guyana, and Suriname now all have links to the Ethnologue Database, with information on the many languages spoken in each country.

• The Indigenous page has a new section on the Guarani of Paraguay and Brazil, including links to The Guarani Home Page, Learn Guarani Online, The Interactive Guarani Dictionary, and The Guarani Say: Death Before Eviction. The Country Resources section now inlcudes a link to El Proyecto en Bolivia. The Huaorani section has new links to the Huaorani Home Page, The Huaorani Peoples of Ecuador (by Grupo Yeja), and Warriors of the Amazon: The Last Shaman (by NOVA Online). Grupo Yeja, in "solidarity with Indigenous People in their pursuit for human rights", leads expeditions into the jungles of Ecuador. The Taino section has new links to Taino, Taino Indian Culture, Centro Ceremonial Indigena de Tibes, and Before Columbus: Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands. Volunteers are needed for this Taino archeological dig.
• The Venezuela page has a number of new additions, including:

• The Sociology page has two new additions to the Fundacao IBGE, in the Brazil section, and to Brazil Housing & Basic Sanitation Data, now in the Housing section.
