Global Alliance for Transnational Education (GATE)

<< 1997 Conference >> THE FUTURE OF TRANSNATIONAL EDUCATION: HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT AND THE QUALITY IMPERATIVE

Co-Sponsored by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Programme on Institutional Management in Higher Education Centre for Educational Research and Innovation

8-11 October 1997 Ritz Carlton Hotel Washington, DC USA

The global marketplace and new technology are contributing to the rapid globalization of higher education. Today's business environment draws its professional work force from all corners of the globe. Human resource development divisions of multinational corporations face the increasing challenge of evaluating courses and degrees from other countries when identifying personnel. Further, higher education is no longer provided solely within national borders. Available through both the higher education and corporate sectors, transnational education can be found in multiple forms, including both electronic and traditional on-site instruction and training programs. Issues of quality, purpose and responsibility abound in this new borderless educational arena and the time is ripe for an international alliance of business, higher education and government dedicated to principled advocacy for transnational educational programs. This new alliance is GATE - the Global Alliance for Transnational Education.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND THIS CONFERENCE

* Corporate Human Resource Development Divisions * Institutions of Higher Education and Corporations which provide courses/degree programs across borders either electronically or physically * Governmental or National Bodies of Quality Assurance in Higher Education * Professional Associations with interests in Continuing Professional Education * International Organizations with interests in academic and professional mobility and trade * Countries which receive transnational education programs

Participants in the conference will meet in general sessions together as well as in special interest groups.
