>>THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN
>>
>>The Conference: The Student Conference on Latin America, organized by the
>>Institute of Latin American Studies Student Association (ILASSA) at the
>>University of Texas, is an interdisciplinary forum oriented towards
>>students involved directly in diverse areas of study. The conference
>>provides students with an opportunity to showcase research activities,
>>develop presentational skills, exchange ideas and information, and meet
>>other scholars of Latin American Studies. The meeting, now in its
>>eighteenth year, is the oldest and largest student conference in the field
>>of Latin American Studies.
>>
>>Requirements: ILASSA invites students to submit a single-page abstract of
>>a paper focusing on any specialty in Latin American Studies. The abstract
>>will guide in the selection of papers and in the organization of panels for
>>the conference. The final deadline for receipt of abstracts is November
>>15, 1997. Final notices will be mailed by December 9, 1997 either
>>accepting or declining students' submissions for the conference. Students
>>invited to participate will have until January 31, 1998 to submit their
>>final paper. *Note: ILASSA is charging a small registration fee of $10 to
>>be paid on or before February 27, 1998 for all participants presenting
>>papers. (This fee will allow ILASSA to provide more merit-based grants to
>>students whose papers have been accepted, as well as to cover distribution
>>and processing costs incurred by ILASSA.) All papers will be put on
>>reserve at the Benson Latin American Collection for the students and the
>>faculty to preview. During the conference each student will have twenty
>>minutes to present his or her work in a panel arranged around a common
>>theme.
>>
>>Accommodations: Upon request, participants will be provided housing with a
>>University of Texas student as well as transportation to and from the
>>airport. Participants willing to cover the costs may prefer to make
>>arrangements at a local hotel. While attending the conference, participants
>>will have access to the Benson Latin American Collection, which is
>>considered by scholars throughout the world as one of the finest research
>>libraries for Latin American Studies.
