Announcement

The International Communication and Negotiation Simulation (ICONS)
Project at the University of Maryland is offering an "International
Relations of the Americas Simulation" during the Spring 1998
Semester. ICONS has been teaching students to negotiate since the
1980s through an Internet-deliverable, role-playing exercise.
Classes of students at various locations (US and non-US institutions)
play the role of diplomats and conduct a three week session of
negotiations. The "Americas" Simulation will focus on
narco-diplomacy, the environment, and regional economic integration.
It will run from April 13 to May 1st, 1998. Cost of participation is
currently being underwritten by a US Department of Education Grant --
so it is FREE to instructors and their classes for the Spring 1998
and Spring 1999 semesters. For more information, e-mail or call Dr.
Brigid Starkey at: <bstarkey@bss2.umd.edu> / 301-405-7857.
Training sessions will be held at the University of Maryland on
December 5-6 and February 6-7.
