Dear List Owner and/or Web Master:

We are requesting your authorization to post the
announcement that follows on your listserv, newsgroup,
and/or website. This announcement calls for submissions
by professors and independent scholars or researchers of
papers, panels, research and instructional materials as
part of a three-year project to better understand the
events of 1848 (Mexican-American War) and 1898 (Spanish-
American War) and the consequences of those events in the
shaping of contemporary society in the United States,
Mexico, the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, and
elsewhere.

The project includes a conference (December 8-12, 1998)
and the subsequent production of a CD-ROM and one or more
scholarly books. The project is highly interdisciplinary
and *INCLUDES THE DISCIPLINE AREA(S) OF YOUR LISTSERV,
NEWSGROUP, AND/OR WEBSITE*.

We would greatly appreciate it if you would favor us with
a reply as to whether or not you posted the announcement
to your listserv, newsgroup, and/or website.

We look forward to your response in helping us to
announce this project to your membership.

Sincerely,
