She mentions that CONACYT is questioning the international
standing of the Mexican Journal CIUDADES which many of us use as a
good source of analysis about events and subjects of great
importance in this area. I would urge you to write or preferably
fax CONACYT (c/o Elsa) TODAY expressing your support for this
journal and its role in disseminating research findings in this
important area. As a suggestion, you might find it useful to
compare it in quality to journals like the highly respected
Environment and Urbanization jointly published in the UK and
Argentina, or Intl Journal of Urban Research, or other vehicles of
respected quality.
This is part of a systematic effort by CONACYT to question the
quality of vehicles which are available for critical research in
Mexico, just as it now systematically does not allow evaluating
bodies in the country to evaluate scholars as highly when their
work is published in Spanish , as when they choose to publish in
foreign languages abroad.
