The staff at UT-LANIC would like to inform you of several
new items on our Gopher and World Wide Web servers.
On the WWW, we are in the process of redesigning the
individual country home pages for Latin America and the
Caribbean. Over the past few weeks, several of our existing
home pages have been modified, and we have added new home
pages for seven countries in the region which do not yet
have full Internet access.
We have also incorporated an important technical innovation
on the Gopher server which allows users who do not have a
WWW browser (such as Netscape or Mosaic) to access the WWW
directly from Gopher. You will find this option at the
bottom of the main LANIC Gopher menu:
1. About UT-LANIC
2. Libraries/
3. Publications/
4. Subject Access to Academic Resources/
5. Various Types of Information Services/
6. PROFMEXIS/
7. Latin America/
8. Search Gopherspace/
9. UT-LANIC GopherMail Server Information
--> 10. UT-LANIC World-Wide Web (WWW) Server <HTML>
Links to the Web server have also been added inside the
individual country menus. Any item which ends with <HTML> is
a link which will connect you to the WWW.
Please be aware that this is a new feature, and some local
systems may not yet be configured to support it. If you
experience difficulty, please contact your local system
administrator or technical support desk. In the meantime,
you can access the Gopher to WWW link by entering LANIC
through a Telnet connection (see below).
We encourage feedback from users on these new additions. To
send comments from the Web server, click on the address
(info@lanic.utexas.edu) at the bottom of the page.
Otherwise, just send a regular e-mail message to the same
address.
For those of you who have not yet used LANIC, the servers
can be reached via the following alternatives:
1) Gopher client: lanic.utexas.edu 70
2) E-Mail access: gopher@lanic.utexas.edu
3) Telnet (VT100): lanic.utexas.edu (login: lanic)
4) World Wide Web: http://lanic.utexas.edu/
Best of luck to all for 1995.
-UT-LANIC staff
