The following message, calling for a cease fire between Ecuador and Peru,
and a peaceful and negotiated solution to the problems that have emerged
between the two countries, has received the suppor of hundreds of
professors, students, professionals and citizens of Ecuador, Peru and
other nations.
This message has been sent to several electronic mailing lists, and it
expresses the desire of citizens of the two countries, as well as
concerned citizens of other nations, to re-establish peace and the
relationships of friendship between Ecuador and Peru, as a means to
achieve a higher level of social and economic development.
We are attaching a copy of the message (in Spanish and English), as well
as the list of persons who have expressed their support.

El siguiente comunicado, llamando a un cese al fuego entre el
Ecuador y el Peru, y a una solucion pacifica y negociada a los
problemas surgidos entre los dos paises, ha recibido el respaldo
de centenares de profesores, estudiantes, profesionales y
ciudadanos ecuatorianos, peruanos y de otras nacionalidades a
nivel internacional.
El mensaje ha sido enviado a varias listas de correo electronico,
y expresa el anhelo de ciudadanos de los dos paises, asi como de
otras naciones, por re-establecer la paz y las relaciones de
amistad entre el Ecuador y el Peru, como un medio para alcanzar un
mayor desarrollo economico y social.
A continuacion, transcribimos el texto del mensaje (en castellano
e ingles), asi como las firmas de apoyo recibidas entre el 30 de
Enero y el 1o de Febrero de 1995.

TEXTO DEL MENSAJE EN CASTELLANO:
LLAMADO A CESE AL FUEGO
Los abajo firmantes, profesores, estudiantes, profesionales y ciudadanos
ecuatorianos, peruanos y de otras nacionalidades, preocupados por los
recientes acontecimientos en la frontera entre el Peru y el Ecuador,
e interesados en el desarrollo social y economico de los dos paises,
deseamos expresar lo siguiente:
a) Hacemos un llamado a un inmediato cese al fuego entre las dos partes.
b) Solicitamos que se efectuen todos los esfuerzos necesarios para
llegar a una solucion pacifica a los problemas surgidos, por medio de
negociaciones politico-diplomaticas.
c) Reafirmamos nuestros deseos por que se afiancen los sentimientos de
amistad entre los pueblos ecuatoriano y peruano, como un mecanismo que
permita alcanzar la paz y el desarrollo social y economico de los dos
pueblos.
TEXT OF THE MESSAGE IN ENGLISH:
A CALL FOR A CEASE FIRE BETWEEN ECUADOR AND PERU
The undersigned, professors, students, professionals and citizens of
Ecuador, Peru and other countries, concerned about the recent events
in the border between Peru and Ecuador, and interested in the social
and economic development of the two nations, would like to express the
following:
a) We call for an immediate cease fire between the two countries.
b) We call for efforts to achieve a peaceful resolution of the problems
that have emerged, through political and diplomatic negotiations.
c) We reiterate our hopes for a strengthening of the ties of friendship
between the two nations, as a mechanism that would permit the achievement
of peace and social and economic development.
