Robert,

True. In California's case it is a good time (politically) to bring up this
issue, as well as it is a good time to chop down some of the laws that give
more opportunities to minorities. I think that Pete Wilson's motivations are
both political, and economical. However, I don't think prop 187 is the best
solution, not because I am Peruvian, ergo a foreigener, but because it might
cost me more money. For instance, if the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
refuses to give a driving license to an illegal immigrant he won't be able
to buy insurance for his car. Since he still needs to provide for his family,
he will drive to work anyway. God forgive, but should he have an accident he
will not have insurance, and the other party has liability only, the latter
loses big time. If the other party has full-cover insurance, then his insurance
company covers the cost of repairing his car, but would eventually raise the
premiums. Results: we all californians end up paying higher insurance premiums,
and the illegal alien is still driving uninsured...

A second example will be the kid who does get any type of vaccination. Should he get sick, other family members may catch the same illness, and before long it may
start spreading and becoming a major health problem.

Most of the people who come from Europe during last century were poor people.
Most of the people who came from Mexico or other countries are people who see
no future in their homeland, and sell everything they own to come here. Those
people cannot afford to go back, for they have nothing to go back to. I know a
guy he even thought was working ilegally, paid taxes during the year and never
filed for a return, thus he contributed to California's economy as a consumer
and as the taxpayer the every state wants: the one who does not apply for a
refund.

Desde California, waiting for the Big One...

As Susan Smith's trial is about to begin in North Carolina I can't think of
nothing more appropiate to quote than:

The quote of the month:

"Forget that once you loved them,
that of your body they were born.
for one shot day, forget your children;
afterwards weep. Though you killed them,
they were your beloved sons..."
