Subject: Fundraiser for Chiapas

Our General Assembly just approved a statutory modification enabling us to
solicit and accept donations from individuals and non-governmental
organizations.

Acting on an urgent plea for help from the State Democratic Assembly of the
People of Chiapas (SDAPC) we are initiating the "Fundraiser for Chiapas"
donations in any amount will be accepted from this day on. Our goal is to be
able to send humanitarian aid and cash for transportation and other on site
necessities to the SDAPC as often as possible, but at least once a month.

Any amount is welcome and checks and money orders, in any currency, should be
sent to:

Mexican Exiles for Democracy
P O BOX 13665
LA JOLLA CA 92039-3665

The people of occupied Chiapas desperately need water, food, medicines, and all
other basic necessities. Your donation can, truly, make the difference between
life and death for many human beings.

Please make your check or money order payable to MEP-D (MEP-D stands for
Mexicanos Exiliados pro-Democracia, our name in Spanish) and write SDAPC on the
front if you want your donation earmarked for the people of Chiapas, otherwise
we will disburse it among our other programs (feel free to contact us for
information on same).

For the time being, non monetary donations are a logistics nightmare, we have
members in only 12 countries as of this writing; any suggestion on how to
establish a reliable and almost free network of collection/forwarding centers
will be greatly appreciated.

Please feel free to verify the authenticity of our authority to solicit funds to
be forwarded to SDAPC by calling our contact with them, Marissa Kramsky, at:

011(529)678-0738 SDAPC Headquarters
011(529)678-0053 (CONAI)
011(529)678-0312 Daily "El Tiempo" San Cristobal de las Casas

or with:

Concepcion Villafuerte de Avedano
Asamblea Estatal Democratica del Pueblo Chiapaneco
Venustiano Carranza #26 & 28
Barrio de San Diego
29270 San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas
Mexico
011(529)678-0738 fax/phone

Donations may also be wired directly to BANCOMER, Sucursal 437 at San Cristobal
de las Casas, Chiapas, Mexico; to Master Account (Cuenta Maestra) 921752-5
(437-921752-5 would be equivalent to routing number + account number) in the
name of Amado Avenda~o Figueroa (the rebel governor of Chiapas). As the SDAPC is
not recognized by the establishment in Mexico, it cannot open an account on its
own name.

Unfortunately they still don't have an e-mail address--we are trying to get a
couple of satellite capable notebook computers for them, as well as the
necessary satellite links--you should also have a Spanish speaking person around
if you call them as very few of them, if anyone, speak English.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Please circulate this petition as far and wide and near as possible.

Luis Melgoza,
Spokesperson.
International Executive Committee.
