MAJOR HUMAN RIGHTS ORGANIZATIONS URGE PRESIDENT CLINTON TO
TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION TO REIN IN THE C.I.A.
Washington, D.C. - Amnesty International USA (AIUSA), Human
Rights Watch, the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights, and
the Washington Office on Latin America will hold a joint
press conference on Tuesday, April 4, 1995 calling on
President Clinton to take immediate action on the C.I.A.
There is a need for an independent and impartial
investigation of C.I.A involvement in human rights abuses.
The serious defects in the laws governing the C.I.A. must be
redressed, and current and former C.I.A. "assets" and their
relationship to human rights abuses in Latin America must be
exposed.
