The Inter-American Development Bank has made available a Web homepage,
which includes numerous documents and statistics on Latin America. It
includes a very detailed statistical database (based on the IDB's
"Economic and Social Progress Report", with a time series for 1985-94).
I would like to highly recommend its use. The location is:
You need a Web browser, such as Mosaic or Netscape (please ask your

Fellow SALALMISTAS:
If you have not already discovered the Inter-American Development Bank's Home
Page, I commend it to you: http://www.iadb.org
As a result of a recent policy passed and implemented on January 1, 1995, the
Bank's Public Information Center is required to make available to the general
public certain categories of documents and information about loans and
projects.
Here you will find such items as background information about the Bank, the
IDB publications catalogue, the full text of IDB PROJECTS, a new publication,
and the text of proposed projects by sector or country, environmental
appraisals, approved loans, and project summaries by sector or country. You
can also point to "News Services" where you will find such things as IDB Press
Releases, a Calendar of Events, and speeches.
I hope that you find the Bank's new "transparency" to be refreshing and
informative. I welcome receiving your comments which I will pass on to the
Public Information Center staff.
