The NATIONAL SECURITY ARCHIVE, an independent, non-profit

research institute and library, seeks an intern to assist

part-time on projects concerning U.S. foreign policy and security

interests in Latin America.

The intern's work with the Archive will include contributing to

the Cuba Documentation Project, a collection of declassified

government documents on U.S. policy toward Cuba. The intern will

also research areas of U.S. policy toward Latin American

countries, including El Salvador, Honduras, Guatemala and Panama.

This work is undertaken by the Archive to enrich debate on

American foreign policy by making available to scholars,

researchers and members of Congress internal government

documentation on a variety of important issues.

Intern's at the Archive participate in a number of substantive

ways, including:

- performing archival research

- building extensive chronologies of events based on

declassified documents

- helping obtain government documents through use of Freedom

of Information Act (FOIA) requests Approximately 15% of the

intern's time is devoted to administrative tasks such as

filing, photocopying and answering phones.

REQUIREMENTS: The Archive is seeking applicants with strong

writing and research skills, and some understanding of U.S.

policy toward Latin America. Spanish language skills are helpful,

but not required. Applicants must be able to make a commitment

for a minimum of one semester, 15-40 hours a week.

TO APPLY: Call or write Peter Kornbluh at the number and address

below. Be prepared to submit a resume, short writing sample, one

or two recommendations and a transcript.
