THE FOURTH ANNUAL LATIN AMERICAN STUDIES SYMPOSIUM
April 18-19, 1996
Please plan to attend the Fourth Annual Latin American Studies Symposium,
hosted by Birmingham-Southern College. Every spring, the Latin American
Studies Program gathers undergraduate students, faculty and professionals for
two days of intense discussion about current Latin American topics. This
conference has two main objectives: to promote undergraduate research and to
increase dialogue among faculty members.
UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH
If you have a student conducting research on a Latin American topic, please
encourage him/her to submit a one-page abstract to the LAS committee. All
topics relating to Latin America are welcome.
FACULTY PARTICIPATION
Aside from undergraduate research panels, we invite faculty members to
propose and lead roundtable discussions on topics of interest to all faculty
and staff (e.g., study-abroad programs, grant writing). Faculty members may
also organize a panel of undergraduate student presenters and serve as the
chair/discussant.
SYMPOSIUM PROCEEDINGS
A selected number of papers will be published as a journal of the conference
proceedings. This publication will be distributed to all libraries of the
Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) consortium. The proceedings will be
available to ACS and non-ACS individuals, upon request.
REGISTRATION
There is no registration fee to attend the conference. However, participants
will be asked to preregister in order to be included in the luncheons and
special receptions that the college will host during the conference.
