The U.S.-Mexican Policy Studies Program
is pleased to announce an upcoming seminar on

"BANKING AND FINANCE IN MEXICO"

One of the critical elements of restoring financial stability in
Mexico and setting
the stage for economic recovery in 1996 is the strengthening of the
banking system.
With few important exceptions, Mexican banks have a high proportion of
non-performing loans. The Mexican authorities are devoting billions of
dollars of
resources to shoring up the banks. The seminar will provide expert
analysis of the
situation of Mexican banks and the prospects for restoring them to health.

A healthy economy in Mexico is extremely important for Texas. The
higher the
overall rate of growth in Mexico, the more imports of goods and services
it obtains
from Texas. For Texas, Mexico is by far the leading foreign market for its
industrial,
agricultural, and service providers. This seminar thus deals with a key
aspect of the
Texas-Mexico economic relationship.
