of spanish or above will run in Santiago, Chile from=20
January 2-January 19, 1996. =20
The University of Chile's program
involves seminars, debates, and case studies focusing on the
interdisciplinary theme of "Contempory Dilemmas of Participation and
Activism." The program will cover themes such as:
Participation in the Transformation of Educational Institutions,
Democracy in a Post-industrial Society, Challenges of the Present
International System:New Actors and Processes, Participation in the
Private Sector and modernization in the Chilean Economy, Hidden
Pathways in Medicine: Community Participation in Health Care, Women
and the New society. There are 19 course options in all with speakers
from a wide variety of fields. Senators, architects, biologists,
doctors, and academics among others will lecture or partake in the
discussions. This program of the University of Chile will be
supplemented by 55 hours of intensive spanish (the first
week-intensive spanish only, weeks two and three-half day intensive
spanish/half day U. of Chile's program) spanish study will occur in
a small group format with experienced Chilean teachers.
The cost of the program is US $950.00 which includes classes at the U.
of Chile and the Intensive Sp=85anish program. Housing is not included
but will be located on request in apart-hotels, hostels or with
Chilean families-prices vary. Special excursions in and around Chile
can also be arranged. Spaces are limited for the program.
