*How many Puerto Ricans and other Latinos live in a
specific Latino neighborhood in New York City?
*What are the Latino vs. Non-Latino high school
graduation rates in the city's Latino neighborhoods?
*Which Latino neighborhood has the highest poverty rate?
*What are the Latino population projections for the year
2000 for each Latino neighborhood?
The answers to these and other questions can be found in
"Latino Neighborhoods Profiles Online: New York City" on
the Worldwide Web. These profiles are based on the "New
York City Latino Neighborhoods Databook," an 800+ page
atlas soon to be published by the Institute for Puerto
Rican Policy (IPR). The Databook was developed by
Christopher Hanson-Sanchez, IPR Research Director, with
funding from Times-Warner Communications, the New York
Community Trust and The Ford Foundation. The full report
analyzes the meaning of these neighborhood-level
statistics and discusses the methodology used to define
these Latino neighborhood areas.
The Web version, produced by Miguel Maldonado, IPRNET
Coordinator, is a brief data summary for the 21 full
Latino neighborhoods presented in the Databook. There
are an additional 33 smaller Latino "sub-neighborhood"
areas, along with statistics for the city as a while and
for each borough, which are not presented in this Web
version.
The printed report is scheduled for publication in early
June 1996.
