The North-South Center of the University of Miami is pleased
to announce a conference on December 5 and 6, 1996, on the implications
of the Ecuador-Peru conflict of 1995 that was originally scheduled for May
1996.
The conference, co-sponsored by the U.S. Southern Command, the U.S. Army
War College, and the North-South Center, is a non-governmental, non-partisan
effort designed to stimulate creative thinking about conflict resolution in
the
Americas. The conference will specifically not address the tactical and
operational
aspects of the conflict, nor will it attempt to validate respective national
points of
view regarding the conflict's origins. The sole purposes of the conference
are to
identify and discuss lessons learned from the Ecuador-Peru conflict that
will aid
in avoiding or containing future conflicts within the Americas.
A limited number of spaces are available for those who wish to attend.
This
conference should prove to be a stimulating search for practical
recommendations
for the inter-American security community in dealing with future conflicts.
The Conference will be held at the North-South Center, 1500 Monza
Avenue,
Coral Gables. Lodging arrangements may be made a few blocks from the
North-South
Center at the University Holiday Inn, (305) 667-5611/ fax (305) 665-6691.
Round-trip
transportation will be provided between the Holiday Inn and the North-South
Center and
to the evening dinner. There will be a $60 conference fee that will include
four meals.
