I would like to personally invite you to join Periodistas de Investigacisn
at our first "Encuentro en la frontera" in November in Ciudad Juarez. We
are hoping that this event will become an important annual gathering of
reporters and editors who write about the border from both sides.
As part of an effort to get the word out, I'm sending you a copy of our
latest newsletter, which includes a preliminary program (on page 18-19) and
a registration form (on the back cover). Our newsletter is in Spanish, so
if you prefer a bilingual or English version, please call me or consult a
program on the web at http://www.ire.org. You can also call Investigative
Reporters & Editors (IRE) in the US at (573) 882-2042. (We are organizing
the event together with our sister organization in the United States, IRE).
Periodistas de Investigacisn is a year-old membership asociaiton of
investigative reporters dedicated to promoting a network of journalists in
Latin America and in border areas in the US and Mexico. We currently have
104 members, mostly in Mexico.
I hope to see you in Juarez, and I welcome any questions you might have
about the program or about our organization. Please feel free to pass along
the word to whomever you think might want to join us.

?QUIENES SOMOS PERIODISTAS DE INVESTIGACION?
Periodistas de Investigacisn es una asociacisn civil que se inicis en
Mixico en septiembre de 1996. Actualmente cuenta con 104 miembros en
Mixico, Colombia, Brasil y Puerto Rico, y tres empleados (Lise Olsen,
directora, Pedro Enrique Armendares, subdirector y Alma Delia Fuentes,
coordinadora de servicios de informacisn). Nuestro objetivo es crear una
red de reporteros y editores especializados en periodismo de investigacisn,
basada en el ideal de la cooperacisn entre pares para beneficio del interis
pzblico y comprometida con el mejoramiento de la profesisn periodmstica en
Mixico y en otros pamses de Amirica Latina. Durante los primeros tres aqos
el programa sera auspiciado por la Fundacisn McCormick Tribune, con sede en
Chicago. Estamos asociados con Investigative Reporters & Editors, una
asociacisn profesional internacional de periodistas de investigacisn que
tiene su sede en los Estados Unidos.
