The U.S. - Brazil Partnership for Education includes an initiative in which
U.S. and Brazilian teachers will participate in exchanges which are intended
to strengthen the language and cultural skills of the teachers and jointly
to evaluate designs and methodology of professional development for
teachers.
The teacher exchange portion of the Initiative is being administered by the
Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program of the United States Information Agency.
Specifics for 1999-2000
Proposed: Three or four teams of three teachers each. A team might
include a teacher trainer, a high school teacher and a high, middle or
elementary school teacher.
Requirements: teachers of Portuguese or English as a Second Language
Language requirements: knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish
Time Frame: U.S. Teachers go to Brazil: October 15 - December 13, 1999
Brazilian teachers come to U.S.: March 18 - May 12, 2000
Transportation award: round-trip transportation for exchange teacher
Allowances: each teacher receives a stipend of $3,000
Teachers will be expected to team-teach in their partners' classrooms.
