It seems that these people are very well read, and know who is who in
Colombian Social Sciences. That also means that a lot of friends that we
know, are next in the death list. Please consider ways of helping them.
As someone said in the funeral of Mario Calderon (a sociologist), two
years ago, "aqui nos van a matar a todos".

BOGOTA, Dec 22 (AFP) - Political analyst Eduardo Pizarro
Leongomez, a backer of a negotiated resolution to Colombia's civil
war and a well-known columnist here, was shot and injured in a
drive-by attack Wednesday, police said.
Leongomez was shot as he was walking to National State
University, where he is a professor, they said.
Attackers fled the scene on a high-powered motorbike. The
gravely wounded Pizarro Leongomez was rushed to the nearby Palermo
clinic.
The chief of Colombia's National Police, General Rosso Serrano,
said police were seeking both the attackers and a motive.
"Here there's shooting from all sides," Serrano said.
Two of Pizarro Leongomez's brothers, both former rebel leaders,
were murdered in the last ten years.
The author of several books on political violence in Colombia,
Pizarro Leongomez is a frequent consultant to the government,
political leaders, academics and the media.
On September 15, gunmen killed professor and peace advocate
Jesus Bejarano on the National university campus, in what many
considered a blow to peace talks between the government of president
Andres Pastrana and the marxist rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of
Colombia (FARC).
The attack on Pizarro Leongomez came two days after FARC - the
largest and oldest rebel group in the country - unilaterally
declared a 22-day truce through January 10.
