Notes: (1) The historical assistance levels compiled in the tables were retrieved from
an official A.I.D. document entitled "Overseas Loans and Grants, Series of Yearly Data".
The data covers commitments for economic and food assistance made by A.I.D. and its
predecessor agencies. Commitments include loan authorizations and obligations and grant
obligations.
(2) DA and ESF funds obligated after 1985 were used almost exclusively for grants. Since
then, loan obligations have declined from $234 million for the region in 1985 to zero in 1992.
(3) The figures reported in these tables differ slightly from the current assistance levels
presented in earlier tables because they include some centrally funded assistance, such
as disaster assistance, and some prior year deobligations were not yet recorded.
For definitions of the various funding categories, see USAID Assistance tables for FYs 1992-94.
