Source: US Overseas Loans and Grants, US Agency for International Development, Washington, DC, 1998. This section covers commitments for economic assistance made by USAID and its predecessor agencies to LAC. Commitments include loan authorizations and obligations, and grant obligations. Country-level data include some regional funds where such funds were directly allocated to field missions. Data include obligations for grants and loans from the Development Assistance ( DA) funds, Economic Support Fund (ESF), and Food for Peace (PL 480) appropriations. Totals also include capitalized interest, which represents interest on loans that, rather than being paid when due, is added to the principal amount of the loan, and is t hereafter treated as principal to be repaid with interest. Food for Peace is composed of Title I (sales agreements – administered by the US Department of Agriculture), Title II (food aid programs), and Title III (the food for development program).
Notes: This table presents total USAID assistance to Latin America and the Caribbean in current dollars and constant 1992 US dollars. Coverage is for 1952-97.
