Definition: U.S. direct-investment position (on a historical-cost basis) reflects the value of the net accumulated stock of capital that U.S. parent companies have provided to their foreign affiliates. A negative number indicates a that the net accumulated stock of capital that U.S. parent companies have provided to their foreign affiliates is negative. Sub-regional groupings: French Islands, Caribbean, consist of Guadeloupe and Martinique. U.K. Islands, Caribb ean, consist of Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Montserrat, and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Notes: The letter "d" signifies that the data have been suppressed to avoid disclosure of data specific to individual companies. The symbol "*" signifies an amount less than $500,000. "Unallocated" ; is the sum of all suppressed data (i.e. the difference between the LAC total, which includes suppressed figures, and the sum of the four regional totals, which do not include suppressed figures.
