1.  [Text] Today, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, president of Councils of
State and Ministers, is attending the first day of the tripartite conference
among Cuba, the former Soviet Union, and the United States regarding the 1962
Caribbean crisis. The conference began today at the Convention Center in Havana
with the participation of important political and military figures who were
involved in the events of October 1962.

2.  The former Soviet Union is being represented by Alexander Alekseev, former
ambassador to Cuba; Oleg Troyanovksy, former ambassador to the United Nations;
(Felix Kovaliev), former archives director of the USSR Interior Ministry; two
of Nikita Khrushchev's sons; and Sergo Mikoyan, prime minister and president of
the Supreme Soviet during the crisis.

3.  President Fidel Castro is the only surviving state leader of the three
countries involved in the historical event.
