Song Journey, a video by Arlene Bowman {Navaho) and Jeanine Moret, 1994. Part of Traveling with the Ancients, a video series from indigenous communities around the world. The director travels the pow-wow circuit to join with other dancers and singers in the new traditions being created. This road journey leads her to her grandmother's old home on a Navaho reservation. Vuelcos/Shifts. La Peña will host an opening reception for Chilean artist Liliana Wilson Grez, Las Manitas Avenue Cafe, 211 Congress from 6:00-8:00 P.M. The reception will include a special tribute by Lourdes Perez. On exhibit will be paintings and drawings from Wilson Grez's most recent collection of works. Brazilian Sociologist or Historian, Visiting Scholar 1998-99, Latin American and Latino Studies Program, DePaul University. Preference will be given to applicants working on race and Afro-Brazilian culture. Candidates should be prepared to teach three undergraduate courses during the year and deliver a series of public lectures. Applicants must be fluent in English. Courses to be offered include 20th Century Latin America, Modern History of Brazil, and Race and Class Relations in Latin America. Applicants must not have taught, studied, conducted research, or worked in the United States within the past five years. This position is pending receipt of a Scholar-in-Residence award from the Fulbright Commission. Call for artists: Che Para Chiapas. 1997 is the 30th anniversary of Che's assassination. The Committee in Solidarity with Chiapas is celebrating and remembering Che by organizing an art and cultural homage as well as an artists' silent auction to benefit the indigenous people of Chiapas. All artists are invited to help by donating art pieces and setting a minimum amount for which his/her piece is to be sold. Any and all themes are welcome, particularly if they relate to Che, Chiapas, indigenous people, or resistance movements. We are also inviting all artists to participate with poetry, song, theatre, performances, movies/videos, dance, comedy, etc., during this homage to, and celebration of, Che. Border Energy Forum IV, United States-Mexico, Las Cruces, New Mexico, Oct. 21-22, 1997. The Border Energy Forum is intended to encourage and solidify the formation of lasting partnerships that will result in maximizing our use of energy resources while minimizing environmental degradation throughout northern Mexico and the southwestern United States. Topics discussed will include: the border and energy; energy imports and exports; transportation and air quality issues; regional energy issues; energy's future. Joint Conference of the Canadian Association for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CALACS) (XXVIII Annual Congress) and the Canadian Association for Mexican Studies (CAMS) (Third International Congress), March 19-22, 1998, Simon Fraser University, Burnaby, British Columbia. The 1998 Joint Conference of CALACS and CAMS invites proposals for papers and panels in all areas of Latin American and Caribbean scholarship and all areas relevant to the understanding of historical and contemporary Latin America and the Caribbean. Conference theme: "Latin America: Moving Beyond Neoliberalism." Proposals for papers and panels should be submitted in two copies, one to the most appropriate Section Head and one to the Program Coordinator at Simon Fraser University.
