Fellowships

Rand Professional Development Postdoctoral Fellowship. Rand is seeking members of minority groups that traditionally have been underrepresented in the field of public policy studies. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for new Ph.D. recipients with interests in research related to RAND's domestic or national security research programs to utilize their skills in conducting research on current problems in areas of interest. Fellowships are for 1 year and include an annual stipend of $35,000, medical insurance, and travel expenses. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or with permanent resident status, have excellent prior academic records, and be a member of one of the following minority groups: African Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, Alaskan Natives. E. D. Farmer International Scholarship for Mexican Nationals. To qualify, applicants must have graduated from a Mexican university, must be admitted to the UT Graduate School, and must be nominated by the administration of their home university. Republic of Mexico 1997 Solidaridad Endowed Presidential Scholarship. Applications are invited from Mexican citizens who are pursuing any academic major at the undergraduate or graduate level at UT. This scholarship is intended to support research on any topic that will be incorporated into a thesis, policy report, or dissertation submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a graduate degree. Applications should comprise: 1 C.V.; a current transcript of studies at UT; two sealed letters of recommendation from faculty members who have taught the student at UT with the referee's signature across the back of the envelope on the seal; a brief statement (maximum 2 pages, single-spaced) outlining the specific ways in which the scholarship would further the student's research, taking care to specify directly how the work done will be incorporated into a final product (chapter, research paper, core data for a policy report, etc.). Job Opportunities

Director of the Helen Kellogg Institute for International Studies, University of Notre Dame. The position calls for a person with a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship as well as substantial experience in academic administration. The director will continue to expand the international profile of the Institute and enhance the leadership role of its Latin American research component and will work closely with the Office of the Provost to coordinate the activities of the Institute with the teaching activities of the various colleges. Casa de Español Xelajú's (CEX) Project La Pedrera offers students and nonstudents a variety of internship and volunteer work opportunities with an underserved indigenous community in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala.
