HIV/AIDS in Cuba: Building Bridges, Crossing Borders, Havana, Aug. 6-13, 1997. The conference is cosponsored by the Pan American Health Organization, Havana's Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine, the Global Network of People Living With HIV/AIDS (North America), and the U.S.+ Cuba Medical Project. The program is designed so that researchers, activists, health and service providers, educators, and prevention workers can share information, find common ground, and continue building an effective global response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Fifth Seminar on Afroamerican Culture: Afrocuban and Other Afrocaribbean Religions, Casa de las Americas, Havana, Cuba, Aug. 18-29, 1997. The 60-hour seminar is divided into two parts: Over 5 days, high-ranking Cuban specialists will deliver lectures on Afrocuban religious complexes; panels with the participation of Cuban and foreign specialists will be held for another 5 days. To submit a paper or present a video, send a synopsis in 20 lines and C.V. to the Admission Committee before June 30, 1997. Papers with 20-minute max deliverance time or video presentations may be submitted on a variety of religious topics. Deadline for new panel submission is April 30, 1997. Fellowship

Mellon Post-Doctoral Fellowship: Latin American Studies Research Librarian, 1997-98, Duke University Center For International Library Programs. Up to two nine-month fellowships per year are being offered to recent Ph.D.'s in any field of Latin American studies who wish to pursue careers as Latin American library specialists. Fellows will gain hands-on knowledge of collection development and public service work. Each fellowship for 1997-98 is $27,500 (nine months), plus benefits. Job Opportunity

Assistant Professor, Latin Americanist/Cultural Anthropologist, LaGrange College, Georgia, Fall 1997. The appointee will team teach in the introductory core course in Latin American Studies and, on a regular basis, will teach anthropology outside of the Dept. of Latin American Studies. A major Latin American Studies program does not exist at this time, but it is hoped that demand will warrant one. LaGrange is a liberal arts college related to the United Methodist Church. The requirements for the appointment include an understanding of and a committment to the philosophy of education found in mainline church-related colleges.
