Festival Latino-Americano, Oct. 24-25, 1998-St. Louis
Catholic Church (7601 Burnet Road), in collaboration with UT, city agencies
Seton Hospital, and the American Red Cross, is sponsoring a festival for
Latin Americans in Austin to interact in a social atmosphere and meet the
consul from their particular country. Dancing, music, food specific to
each country, and talks on culture, as well as information booths on legal

Call for Submissions-Nineteenth Annual ILASSA Student Conference
on Latin America, Feb. 26-27, 1999, UT-Austin. The Institute of Latin
American Studies Student Association (ILASSA) at UT-Austin invites students
to submit for acceptance a single-page abstract of a paper focusing on
any topic in Latin Amerian Studies. Deadline for receipt of abstracts:

the university's academic, student, and educational community outreach
efforts in Latin American language and area studies. Candidates should
be scholar-teachers in the area of Latin American Studies, with substantial
records of publication and professional service. The successful candidate
will have a Ph.D. or its equivalent and qualify for a tenured appointment
at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor within a department of
the College of Letters and Science. Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese
