Call for Papers--Missionary Positions: Post-Colonialism to Pre-Sexto Sol, National Association for Chicana and Chicano Studies, April 28-May 1, 1999, University of Texas at San Antonio. We invite papers, p anels, performances, storytelling, and roundtables that address one or more of the multiple meanings of the conference theme, which purposively invites critical analyses and dialogue with regard to object/subject exploitation, its historical and contempor ary manifestations and the variety of ideological positions from which the world is understood by Chicana/o scholars. We are especially interested in receiving submissions that address the concerns of the K-12 and community caucuses. Student participation in panels and roundtables is strongly encouraged. Call for Papers--SALSA (Symposium About Language and Society-Austin) Seventh Annual Meeting, April 9-11, 1999, UT-Austin. Submit abstracts on research that addresses the relationship of language to cul ture and society. Selected papers delivered at the conference will be published as a special edition of the Texas Linguistic Forum. Speakers will be allowed 20 minutes for presentation and 10 minutes for discussion. Papers will be selected based on the ev aluation of an anonymous written abstract that may not exceed one page. Please submit: six (6) copies of the abstract, on 8-1/2 x 11 paper, to the address below; a 3 x 5 card with title of the paper, author's name and affiliation, address, phone an d address at which author wishes to be notified; a short 100-word abstract, on a 3.5 disk (Mac or PC), for publication in the program. Employment Opportunities

Assistant Professor, Spanish and Humanities, Reed College, Portland, Oregon, Fall 1999. Candidates for this tenure track position should have broad training in Spanish-American literature and literary theory, a record of scholarly actitivity in a field other than colonial literature, and a strong interest in language teaching. American/Caribbean/Spanish Borderlands), University of New Hampshire. A tenure- track appointment will be held jointly; all specialties will be considered except Brazilian history. Strong preference will be given to candidate s with interdisciplinary interest and backgrounds who have experience working in both History and Women's Studies. Teaching and service responsibilities will be equally divided between History and Women's Studies and may include coordination of the Women' s Program at some future date. Evidence of excellent undergraduate teaching and scholarly potential required. A full-time position with major responsibilities for developing and managing innovative interdisciplinary research projects and prov iding advanced training for doctoral candidates in international studies. Candidates should have a Ph.D. with a background in an interdisciplinary area and/or international studies, and a demonstrated interest in advanced research on global issues. Intern ational research and work experience, program management experiences, and an interest and ability in fostering innovative research are a must.
