MONDAY, SEPT. 13--Carlota Joaquina, Princesa do Brazil, a 1994 film by Carla Camurati which presents a satirical view of Brazilian history by focusing on the life of the Spanish princess who, in 1785, at the age of ten, traveled to Portugal to marry the Portuguese prince, later going with him to Brazil, where she lived from 1818 to 1821. This film breaks down the stages of a couple's love affair into alphabetically arranged scenes. Forum on European Expansion and Global Interaction,
Flagler College, St. Augustine, FL, Feb.18-19, 2000.
Forum is concerned with the expansion of Europe and the worldwide response to the expansion, from the 14th century to the middle of the 19th century. It seeks participation by scholars in all areas of the field and encourages submissions from individuals with an interdisciplinary focus. Individual and group proposals welcome. Proposals for roundtable discussions also considered. Proposals should include a 250-word abstract and C.V. U.S. Latinos and World War II-Changes Seen, Changes Wrought, UT-Austin, May 26-27, 2000. Proposals for papers may deal with
historical, sociological, political, anthropological, journalistic,
cultural, artistic perspectives about the world of U.S. Latinos before,
during and/or after the war. Papers should be no more than 20 pages and must include a one-page abstract, with a detachable cover page to include the title of the paper and complete contact information of authors. Dimensión Antropológica, an anthopology journal published by INAH, solicits contributions by researchers in anthropology, history, and affiliated disciplines of articles based on recent research, theoretical essays, research notices, and book reviews. The journal is

Fellowships, Grants, and Research Opportunities

University Cooperative Society/UT-Austin 1999-2000 Undergraduate Research Fellowships Competition. Intended to cover costs (up to $1,000) associated with academic research projects proposed and written by full-time undergraduate students and undertaken with the supervision of a university faculty member. Dumbarton Oaks Residential Fellowships in Pre-Columbian Studies, Byzantine Studies, or Studies in Landscape Architecture. Fellowships for scholars who hold a doctorate, Junior Fellowships for Ph.D. candidates, and Summer 2000 Fellowships are available. Support is generally for archaological research, as well as for the recovery, recording, and analysis of materials that would otherwise be lost. Applicants should provide evidence that sites or objects are under immediate threat. dedicated to serving Puerto Rican and other Latino youth through leadership development and education, seeks graduate and undergraduate students for the 1999-2000 academic year.
