New Economic and Social Perspectives on Brazil. International
Faculty Development Seminar to Brazil, May 30-June 7, 2000. Nine-day
seminar begins in São Paulo (three nights), continues
to Parati (two nights), and ends in Rio de Janeiro (three nights).
It is designed for U.S. faculty and administrators in an effort
to stimulate the study of Brazil through lectures, faculty interchange,
and coordinated site visits. Lectures by Brazilian academics
will focus primarily on economic and social issues facing Brazil
today. Seminar fee of $1,995 includes seminar costs, accommodation,

FELLOWSHIPS, GRANTS, AND RESEARCH OPPORTUNITIES
Bi-National Business Grants to Mexico. The U.S.-Mexico
Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange offers 15 grants
of tuition and stipend for U.S. students to pursue studies in
business, law, and/or engineering while interning at Mexico-based
corporations. Candidates must be U.S. citizens, have a B.S./B.A
. in engineering, accounting, business,
law, or economics and/or an M.S./M.A. in business or international
business administration, international relations, or economics
from a U.S. university, a minimum of two year's U.S. experience
in business, and proficiency in Spanish. Students will live and
work in Mexico from Sept. 2000-June/July 2001 and take two graduate-level
courses per trimester (two nights per week) while working 9:00

Research Fellowship in Politics and Research Fellowship
in International Politics/Political Economy at the University
of Oxford Centre for Brazilian Studies, Oxford, England. Candidates
for the first post should normally have completed a doctorate
in political science, political sociology, or modern political
history with reference to Brazil; for the second post, a doctorate
in international politics (including environmental issues) or
economics (including trade, finance, and regional integration)
with reference to Brazil. The fellowships will be tenable for
two years with the possibility of an extension of up to one year.
Salary £16,286-£24,479 per annum. Available from
April 1, 2000 or Oct. 1, 2000. Applicants should arrange to have
