EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Assistant Professor of History, University of Scanton,
Scranton, PA. Tenure-track position beginning Sept. 2000
requires Ph.D. and teaching experience. Responsibilities include
teaching courses in Latin American history and participation
in the development of a new interdisciplinary program in Latin
American studies. Additional interests in Asian, African, Middle
Eastern, or gender history would be helpful. The successful candidate
should be able to support the Catholic and Jesuit tradition and
spirit through his/her work in history. Preliminary interviews
will be conducted at the OAH annual meeting in Spring 2000. Send

Earl N. Phillips Jr. Distinguished Professorship in International
Studies, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The
Phillips Professor will hold a tenured position in an appropriate
dept. as well as a joint appointment in the newly designed Curriculum
in International and Area Studies. Candidates who would also
be interested in chairing the Curriculum are particularly welcome.

Joint Research Fellowship and Visiting Professorship, John
Carter Brown Library, Brown University, Providence, RI, and Dept.

are invited from established scholars who are citizens of Spain
and Spanish America for one semester during the 2000-2001 academic
year. The fellow will conduct research at the Library and will
teach, in Spanish at Connecticut College, one course pertinent
