Unlocking the Secrets of Ancient Writing: The Parallel Lives
of Michael Ventris and Linda Schele and the Decipherment of Mycenaean
and Mayan Writing, an exhibit in the Benson Latin American
Collection Rare Books Room that examines two of the most famous
decipherments of ancient writing of the last century. Items are
included from the collections of the UT Classics Dept. Program
in Aegean Scripts and Prehistory (PASP), Dr. Linda Schele, and

STUDY ABROAD
Government of Peru, 2000 Summer Research Fellowship. Applicants
are invited to submit proposals on priority research areas: Civil
Society, Representation, and Governance in Peru. Candidates must
be studying for, or already possess a postgraduate or professional
degree from a university outside of Peru, at least, intermediate-level
knowledge of Spanish, and good writing skills. A limited number
of grants are available to cover airfare and lodging. Starting
