Part I: Global economic crisis from Thailand to Brazil -- lessons learned

Objectives 
The objectives of the course are to enhance the participants' understanding of the forces at play in the current international economic and financial context, and to provide an in-depth analysis of the current global economic crisis. The course will aim to identify the impact of the current crises on other economies and elaborate on scenarios and tools available to the global community to deal with the current situation. It will highlight the lessons learned for the future, and on how economies can pre-empt and plan for similar economic cycles.

Organization
The two-day course will consist of several modules delivered through lectures, case studies and an overnight analytical exercise to be prepared by the participants. The modules will be on the role of multilateral and private institutions,the overview of the current global economic crisis and the Asian, Russian and Brazilian economies as case studies. The course will also attempt to address possible scenarios for management of the crisis, examine key elements of the world economy and discuss some tools employed by countries to operate in the global economic environment. The course will wrap up with lessons learned from the current situation.
