Objectives
The objective of this two-day workshop is to explore a variety of
practical communication topics and issues relevant to the work of a
United Nations diplomat. Participants will improve their ability and
skills in: making public presentations and speeches, leading
organizational and other public meetings, and facilitating panel
discussions and question and answer sessions.
Organization
Over two days, participants will follow lectures and engage in
scenarios and "role plays" they may face as professionals. Day 1 will
focus largely on making public presentations and the art of persuasion.
Day 2 will examine the keys to more effective meeting facilitation
(getting more useful participation and staying focused on the meeting
"agenda") as well as exploring specific techniques in moderating public
forums.

Course Schedule

The Workshop will cover the following line of activities:
- Welcome and introduction by UNITAR and Seton Hall University
- Introduction to the "Stand and Deliver" philosophy and
approach
- Discussion and review of communication needs of United Nations
Representatives
- Discussion of specific communication settings such as meetings, panel
discussions, speeches etc.
- Role playing in managing meetings
- Role playing in panel discussions
- Role playing in formal presentations
- Role playing in question and answer sessions
Certain presentation and role playing activities will also be video
taped,
viewed and analyzed in
class by the Workshop leader.
