Orientation course on the Security Council for members of the council

Objectives 
The objective of the briefing is to enable representatives of newly elected members of the Security Council, as well as newly arrived representatives of other members of the Council, to familiarize themselves with the work and procedures of this principal organ. Depending on the availability of space, delegates from other countries may also be able to attend, as observers.

Organization
The briefing consists of eight half-day meetings. It is an intensive programme requiring the active involvement of all the participants. Presentations on the procedures of the Security Council and on the major issues before the Council will be followed by a roundtable discussion by experienced diplomats. The briefing will end with an intervention by a permanent representative on the role of the President of the Council and informal consultations.
