The Project

The Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank is funding the Regional Management Training Project in Latin America to expand and justify the supply of management training available for the small- and medium-sized enterprise sector in order to increase firm productivity and competitiveness in the region. The objectives of the project are to:

· promote sustainable market-driven solutions to management training for SMEs;

· test new methodologies and products in management training and sustainable development;

· leverage public/private sector resources necessary to create and disseminate successful models and environmentally sustainable solutions; and

· foster creation of a network of management and sustainable development training providers throughout the region to encourage mutual learning and collective innovation for SMEs.

These objectives are being met through demonstration projects and dissemination of successful approaches in management training and sustainable development for SMEs. Six training institutions from the region were selected based on their demonstrated leadership in the field of executive education, management training, and/or sustainable development and are conducting projects that will have an impact on the availability and the delivery of training products for the SME sector.

The Workshop

The workshop will bring together representatives from institutions in Latin America and outside the region working in the field of SME management training to exchange views and to discuss successful approaches for design and delivery of management training to the SME sector.

The invitation to participate is extended to representatives from universities, NGOs, industial unions, funding agencies, government offices in Latin America, chambers of commerce, consulting firms, and providers of training services.

Agenda

Plenary sessions will feature presentations by leading experts in the field of SME management training with time allotted for general discussion from the floor.

 Smaller working group sessions will be centered on the demonstration projects. Focus will be on the development of innovative and cost-effective management training and/or sustainable development training products, methods, and materials.
