The UNITAR New York Office was opened in October 1996, in accordance with resolutions of the General Assembly and following the decision of the Institute's Board of Trustees. The mandate of the Office is to organize training for the delegates in New York and to strengthen UNITAR's cooperation with the United Nations Secretariat, Programmes and Funds, as well as with academia, foundations and the private sector in the Americas. The Office also provides regular briefs and updates on ongoing UNITAR programmes out of its Geneva Headquarters.
