Activities
The priority task of the New York Office is to design and conduct training programmes for the permanent missions in New York. Since 1997, an average of one training event per month has been conducted, ranging from skills-building workshops to thematic seminars. Programmes are designed on the basis of the most pressing needs and requests formulated by the missions, and through routine assessments conducted at the end of each course. The range, depth and number of programmes have significantly increased. The New York Office also provides liaison services to another North America-based UNITAR programme, the Programme of Correspondence Instruction in Peacekeeping (POCI).

Future Plans
The New York Office will continue to expand and strengthen its ongoing training programmes at United Nations Headquarters, and its coordination of the Singapore Conference Series on Peacekeeping. The New York Office will place particular emphasis on programmes for and in Latin America. In this regard close cooperation with centres of excellence in Latin American studies are being strengthened, both in the region and in the United States.
