3rd Conference of Texas Brazilianists

The University of Texas and the Brazilian Studies Association (BRASA) will hold the 3rd Conference of Texas Brazilianists Saturday, October 7, 2006. The program will include paper presentations during morning and afternoon sessions; a plenary wrap-up discussion in the afternoon; and cultural activities in the evening.
Scholars from around the state of Texas will explore contemporary issues in Brazilian politics, social development, citizenship, inequality, national identity, and more.
The conference is sponsored by the Brazil Center of the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies, College of Liberal Arts at The University of Texas at Austin. Call for Papers:
The conference has an open theme, so paper and panel submissions on all aspects of Brazilian studies are welcome.
- The conference is open to both faculty and Ph.D. students in any Texas college or university.
- Panels will have no more than four papers and will be chaired either by the organizer or by a UT Austin scholar who is not presenting a paper. Presentations should be 20-30 minutes in length, and each 120 minute session should allow at least 30 minutes for general discussion at the end.
- The conference will have two two-hour morning sessions and four two-hour afternoon sessions for panels, a total of six panels, and a plenary session for closing remarks and comments.
- Paper proposals should be accompanied by a 1-2 page summary CV and a 200-250 word abstract of the paper. Panel proposals should also include a short statement about the goals and focus of the panel.
